First Nations and Inuit Youth Employment Strategy (FNIYES)
The First Nation and Inuit Youth Employment Strategy (FNIYES) supports activities that provide information about careers, help develop job skills, and provide work experience.
KOBE and KiHS (Keewaytinook Internet High School) submit a joint proposal annually for
FNIYES on behalf of the five KO communities. The funding has helped support initiatives
implemented by KOBE’s Student Retention Lead and have included:
- KOBE Winter Indigenous Games
- Chainsaw safety course
- Firearms safety course
- First Aid training
- Trappers education course
- KOBE Presents – Guest speaker series
- Elder engagement
- Breakout EDU boxes
- Lego Mindstorm kits
- 360 Cameras
- Manitoba First Nations Science Fair trip
- Mentored Works positions (two Deer Lake; one North Spirit Lake; one Keewaywin; one Fort Severn; one Poplar Hill; one Sioux Lookout office; one Balmertown office)
